… e-waste recycling and clothing donation campaign launched 1st September…
Gauteng residents are invited to join in on Waterfall’s new Clean‐Up Green‐Up initiative. Launched on the 1st of September, the campaign offers community members the opportunity to do some spring cleaning by donating the things they no longer need to those who do. Donors are encouraged to declutter their closets and recycle their e-waste responsibly.

Establishing order, redefining our spaces, and cleaning up the clutter are some of the most effective strategies to quickly get life back on track,” says Michael Clampett – Asset and Property Management Executive at Attacq
Through the Clean‐Up campaign which runs until 19 September, Gauteng residents are encouraged to declutter closets and donate clothes, shoes and blankets they no longer need. A symbolic wash line has been installed at Waterfall Wilds, where community members can pass by and drop off or hang up their donations. Donors also stand the chance of winning 1 of 10 R1 000 Mall of Africa vouchers by taking a picture at the Instagram frame, posting it using the #WaterfallCares hashtag and emailing it to info@waterfall.co.za.
“This initiative, beyond the giving, helps us reduce waste too. When clothes are reused and passed on instead of thrown away, fewer new clothes need to be made and less waste is sent to landfills. Not only is this people and planet friendly, but it might also be your shirt or jacket that boosts the confidence of someone interviewing for their first job or helps to keep them warm on a cold night” says Willie Vos – CEO of Waterfall Management Company.
In the two-day Green-Up part of this campaign, Waterfall has partnered with RecycleX, one of South Africa’s largest suppliers of reuse and recycling services for electrical and electronic end-of-life products. On Friday 17 September and Saturday 18 September, RecycleX will be manning two drop-off points from 09:00 until 16:00 – one outside Mall of Africa and the other in the car park of Polofields Crossing – ready to accept all e-waste. Those wanting to get rid of old working laptops, iPads or phones with data on them will receive a free and secure data erasure guarantee and certificate. At the end of the campaign RecycleX will report back to the community on the amount of e-waste collected.
There are many benefits to recycling e‐waste, including a cleaner environment as collection saves space in landfills and prevents environmental pollution caused by toxic materials. In addition, recycling is good for the economy as recycled goods use less water, create less pollution, and use less energy. It also reduces the production costs of goods by avoiding manufacturing components from scratch. Electronics specifically contain many components that can be re‐utilised sometimes without any processing, saving resources and energy required for initial manufacturing.
RecycleX will be collecting small and medium e‐waste items such as chargers, batteries, old cell phones, laptops, cameras, TVs and kitchen appliances like toasters, kettles, microwaves etc. Bring your old or broken electronics and RecycleX will see to it that they are given a second life.
