Attacq announced an agreement with Builders

WATERFALL GAUTENG (SOUTH AFRICA) – Attacq announced an agreement with Builders to expand their distribution facility in Waterfall Distribution Campus. The Builders Distribution Centre in Gauteng services all four of the Builders store formats, namely Builders Warehouse, Builders Express, Builders Trade Depot and Builders Super Store.

Waterfall is a mixed-use development conveniently located between the Allandale and Woodmead off-ramps on both sides of the M1/N1 highway. The development boasts approximately 1,300,000 m² of remaining developable bulk for commercial, retail and light industrial use.

The Builders Gauteng Distribution Centre has been in operation since April 2013 and they are already expanding their development. The Distribution Centre services Builders’ stores in the greater Gauteng area, as well as Mpumalanga, Limpopo, North West, Bloemfontein, Botswana, Mozambique and Zambia. “The Waterfall location was identified as the centre of gravity for this distribution area, as well as the easy access to main roads in all directions,” says Diane Hoffman, Massbuild Supply Chain Director

“Attacq is delighted to welcome the Builders expansion to Waterfall,” says Attacq Chief Executive Officer, Morné Wilken. “We are pleased that Builders’ supply chain operations are already realising real business benefits from being in Waterfall’s Logistics Hub,” states Wilken.

The existing 38 000 m² facility will be expanded by 9 618m². Construction has already commenced and is expected to be completed by January 2018.

“The expansion of the Builders Gauteng Distribution Centre is a continuation of the fulfilment of Builders’ strategic decision to centralise its supply chain.  The additional space will increase the facility’s capacity to support the introduction of new stores both within and beyond South African borders. Increased space will also enable the centre to supply the existing stores with a wider range of products via the centralised warehousing and distribution network, thus supporting the stores to service the needs of our customers better,” says Hoffman.

The location of the Distribution Centre provides a strategic advantage in servicing the region, as it is within a 5km radius from the main regional arterial access routes (the N1, M1 and N3 highways) and 32km from OR Tambo International Airport.

“The business benefits of having a distribution centre situated in Waterfall Logistics Hub not only includes giving companies the ability to achieve economies of scale, but the location is also easily accessible to company staff from all areas, while the strategic positioning creates an excellent opportunity for businesses to maximise brand exposure. It is one of South Africa’s largest mixed-use developments, which is attracting top international companies, such as Builders,” explains Pete Mackenzie, head of development at Attacq.

“Increasing throughput is part of the supply chain strategy to ensure the best service possible to all stakeholders and especially our customers, the throughput targets at the Waterfall facility increase yearly. In addition to the direct distribution from the Waterfall-based centre, the Distribution Centre supplies certain stock items nationally via the regional distribution centres based in the Western Cape and Kwazulu-Natal,” concludes Diane Hoffman.
